Safe & Sound Kicks Off in Second Week of August

August 9, 2023

Workplace safety is on every business’s agenda as the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) kicks off its annual Safe & Sound Week event. Taking place August 7-13, the event is designed to involve thousands of worksites in promoting safety and health programs. It encourages leadership, management, and workers to get involved in identifying and fixing workplace hazards.

During this week, OSHA and the National Safety Council (NSC) encourage organizations of any size or industry to participate and showcase their commitment to safety. Businesses, including in the home health care, medical staffing, and allied health sectors, that foster a culture of safety and employ robust safety measures, training, and accountability help prevent on-the-job injuries, which can ultimately help reduce Workers’ Compensation insurance costs and improve employee productivity and morale.

This year’s program focuses on mental health and well-being, as well as on providing resources to assist in relieving workplace stress and promoting a positive and healthy environment. The Safe+Sound Week webpage includes several activities from which a business can choose to participate and implement.  Examples include offering training on mental health awareness; encouraging workers to support one another with conversation starters; providing information on where workers can seek help in the community; and practicing mindfulness with yoga, meditation, or a nature walk.

Businesses are also encouraged to promote their participation and employee engagement by posting on social media using the hashtag #SafeandSoundatWork and communicating with staff via newsletters, emails, and/or meetings.
