2017 NAHC Conference Pays Tribute to Founder of the Caring Institute

October 20, 2017

The 2017 Home Care and Hospice Conference and Expo hosted annually by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) took place in Long Beach, October 15-17.

The annual Caring Awards promote and reward acts of caring and humanitarian service around the country and internationally. Throughout the year, the Caring Institute receives nominations for its adult and young adult categories, and interviews the nominees to learn about their achievements. The Institute each year honors five adult winners and five young adult winners with a VIP ceremony and gala, a crystal statue prize, and a profile in CARING magazine. The Caring Institute is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the principles of caring, integrity, and public service.

At this year’s conference, NAHC also paid tribute to this year’s Caring Award honoree Val J. Halamandaris, the founder of the Caring Institute, who devoted himself to serving the aged, disabled, and ill as longtime president of NAHC. He established the Caring Institute in 1985 after an inspirational meeting with Mother Theresa. Although Mr. Halamandaris has recently passed, his legacy lives on in others who have a similar devotion and passion, reflected by this year’s fellow honorees who have fed the poor, helped the disabled, brought the arts to underprivileged kids, and more.
